About
Rhonda Hetrick Burke believes her most important life role is empowering others and leaving a legacy of kindness. She has dreamed of being a writer since she was little girl scribbling stories in notebooks, reading biographies of famous heroes, and holding up to find a quiet space in the rural Michigan home she shared with five siblings.
Shortly before graduating high school, the shy, timid girl shocked her family by enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
She served in the Navy as a journalist from 1981-2010. While in the Naval Reserves from 1991-2000, she worked as a journalist, managing a group of weekly newspapers in the far north Chicago suburbs, and later as a freelance writer from the Chicago Tribune. She returned to active duty in 2000 – including service in the Middle East – and retired in 2010. Her career took her across the globe from Japan to Bahrain and many places in between. Following retirement from the Navy, she worked as a government public affairs officer for 15 years.
Rhonda is dedicated to telling stories that highlight the diverse experiences of people, their struggles, missteps, and dreams. By sharing these narratives, she seeks to deepen our understanding of what shapes human behavior, fostering empathy and forgiveness that empowers others. Writing and speaking truthfully are her greatest passions.
